WHO CAN ATTEND THE COURSE?
The course is open for all strings (violin, viola, cello & double bass), who are interested in improvisation, groove, jazz and chamber music.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
New playing techniques with and without a bow: e.g. Chopping - groovy bowing technique, tapping - percussive finger picking for both hands. Free & harmony-based improvisation in different styles: including Latin, Swing, World.
WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE COURSE?
In three double lessons (small ensembles from 4-8 musicians), the new techniques are learned and applied to pre-arranged jazz and pop songs. There will be plenty of room for your own improvisation and arranging.
WHICH SKILLS DO I NEED?
The active participants of the course will be divided according to their playing ability in ensembles by the tutor. The safe play of the first to the fourth position is prerequisite.

Print and fill out the application form. After that you should wire the appropriate course fee to the account listed below.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COURSE FEE?

• 3 jazz-workshops for 2 hours in small groups
• Daily lunch
• Passive participation (listening in) at the masterclasses from 29. May until 31.May 2012

Early bird discount: 180 €

From 31 May to 2 June there is a course for cello-orchestra with final concert. For all cellists who will participate in the jazz-workshop, this course is offered with a discount: If you book both courses it costs € 255 and together with early bird discount even only 220 € (registration at both courses until February 20, 2012). Information on accommodation for foreign participants:

Accommodation for participants of the cello orchestra are possible in the Jugendgästehaus Leonberg. From the youth hostel it is about 5 km to the Academy grounds. A good bus service is available.

The youth hostel is very experienced in dealing with students, because they accommodate only students during normal operation.

There are house rules that are respected by everyone. At midnight the youth hostel is closed, but there is a night service. Further details can be requested in the student office.

Prices:

Adolescents up to 17 years: per person 18 €/night in double room (private bathroom) + 3 €/person breakfast
Regular: per person 21 €/night in double room (private bathroom) + 3 €/person breakfast
