Cello-Orchestra Baden-Württemberg 2013
From the start, the Cello Academy Rutesheim acted as a magnet across the entire region drawing in people united by the joys of cello playing. It quickly became apparent that among the many participants were a large number of keen amateur musicians, who also wanted to be part of the unique atmosphere and music making at the Academy.
In 2011, despite only being in it’s first year, the Cello- Orchestra attracted cellists from each corner of the nation and videos of concert performances were shared and viewed by hundreds of thousands of people across the globe. Since then many participants travel from foreign countries, some as distant as South America, in order to be part of the Cello-Orchestra Baden-Württemberg.

In 1976, the cellist Ekkehard Hessenbruch founded his cello-centre in Engelberg, in the midst of the idyllic Remstal countryside. Since then, hundreds of young cellists from the area have studied there and since 1980 have also been part of the Engelberger Cello-Orchestra featuring 90 cellists from every age group performing music ranging from the Renaissance to that of heavy metal.
The Free Music School Engelberg is directed by Ekkehard Hessenbruch who runs the school together with his former students Jochen Kefer and Giga Khelaia who now also teach their own cello classes at the school.
